(1) Do you like these flowers?
Actually this is a trick question, they are not flowers they are seed pods. When we walk to Granny and Grandad we enjoy this tree!
(2) What sort of roots does the stripey plants have?
Did you guess right, it has bulbs!
(3) Can a bulb self propagate, or can a bulb make baby bulbs.
Yes, can you see the tiny baby bulb on the left of the picture sending out a shoot? |
See more information here: http://www.gardening.cornell.edu/homegardening/scenece4b.html
(4) Do you think this tree below will get it's Autumn leaves soon?
No, it's leaves will never turn into beautiful autumn colours, as it is an evergreen tree.
(5) Do green helicopter seeds fly like helicopters?
Do you see the green ones in the background? The answer is no, the green ones just fall straight to the ground, 'like a ton of bricks' Not even this heavy brown one will fly properly yet. Later on in the year their wings grow thinner and they propel around perfectly. Awesome!
(6) What lives inside this closed up 'leaf house'?
Two see through caterpillars?
(7) How long are Autumn trees absolutely perfect for? (All the colours just beautiful and most of the leaves still on the tree.)
Just a few days. On Monday these trees were spectacular and I meant to take a photograph but just did not get around to it. I got Josh to take these photographs for us on Wednesday and many of those lovey leaves were lying on the grass, leaving large gaps where you can see the sky. Of course it is fun to make piles of leaves but I do love those few days of a perfect tree before the leaves all start falling off.
(8) Do mice hop?
(9) How do Green Tree Frogs climb Trees?
They have suckers on the ends of their feet, can you see them? |
(10) Does a silk worm or it's moth lay eggs? Which one spins a cocoon? Tell someone special about the life cycle of a silkworm and what you like best about silkworms?Do you know who kept the secret of silk for 200 years? See http://www.silk-road.com/artl/silkhistory.shtml
