A Southern Hemisphere Charlotte Mason Nature Diary: Trees By Emma and Timothy

Trees are good for climbing and for having a swing on - if the branches are thick enough. If the branches are limpy or wimpy they will break right onto your head. Trees are good for bouncing on if there is a good strong branch; it is fun. If we found a tree with a hollow in it, I would cut it down and play in the hollow.

The problem with our big tree in the front is that it is so yukky as it has horrible worms and spiders and is all mouldy. It is too big to fix the disease, so we will have to cut it down and grow a new tree. Emma would like a big one that has a big tire swing like the Ambrey's have. It would be nice to have blue flowers on Emma's tree. Timothy would like a fruit tree, so he could pick and eat the fruit and not waste money buying fruit. There would also be lots that was all yours.

Emma would like a swing and a horse to go under her tree, with lots of light blue flowers on the ground and on the tree. Sadly our garden is too small for a horse. Tim would leave a box under the tree so that the fruit would just fall in for him to eat. Tim thought it would be nice to have bench under the tree so that we could sit and eat golden and silver fruit there.

Tim would like to have a picnic under his tree, he wishes we could have a tree for every fruit in the world.

Emma would like to read books under her tree and have fields that go on forever with blue and yellow flowers all over.

The Beech Tree by Rose Fyleman

I’d    like to   have   a   garden

With    a beech    tree    on the    lawn;

The little birds   that   lived    there

Would   wake    me   up   at dawn.

And   in   the summer   weather

When   all   the   leaves were   green,

I’d sit beneath    the     beech   boughs

And see the   sky between.
